Velvet Fog Cocktail
For those of you who like to combine the odd alcoholic beverage with your jazz, see below for a recipe for the 'Velvet Fog Cocktail'.*
Take 1-1/2 oz. of saxophonist and arranger Frank Griffith (aka orange flavored vodka)
Add 1/2 oz. of fresh rhythm from Tim Lapthorn on keys, bassman Mark Hodgson and percussionist Paul Clarvis (failing that lime juice will do)
2 dashes of trumpeters in the shape of Henry Lowther and Robbie Robson (or Angostura bitters if you can still get hold of them)
1 oz. Iain Mackenzie's Velvet Falernum Syrup
1 oz. of Trombonist Adrian Fry's fresh orange juice
Shake all ingredients well with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with some flaming alto sax from Alex Garnett, orange peel and fresh grated nutmeg. Delicious!
The video above features the original Velvet Fog, Mel Tormé sitting in the drum chair with the Marty Paich Dektette on Cottontail.
Catch the Frank Griffith Nonet and stylish singer, Iain MacKenzie swinging the music of Mel Torme and Marty Paich this Saturday at Pizza Express Dean Street. We're not sure they do cocktails, but they do have a nice limoncello.

The Frank Griffith Nonet also play tonight at the Vortex.
